Cotard Delusion ( Cotard Syndrome)

 

Cotard Delusion is a rare  mental  illness in which the individual have the delusional belief of  losing his or her blood or internal organs, is putrefying, he is already dead or he doesn't exist. Statistical analysis reviles that hundred-patient group stipulated that amongCotard Syndrome patients the 69% of them showed the signs of denial of self-existenc. Approximately in about 55% of patients have the Delusions of immortality.

 

Le délire des négations ("The Delirium of Negation") the was term use to described the problem by Jules Cotard a neurologist in 1988. Coated Delusion is a psychiatric syndrome having of varying levels of severity. In the mild Level of disorder the person exhibit self hurting and become despair,  but in severe situation the person shows  intense delusions of negation and Chronic Psychiatric Depression.

The Cotard delusion syndrome  gas  not been included in ICD-10 or DSM 5. The delusion of negation is the main symptom in Cotard's syndrome. The person having Cotard delusion  usually denies the presence of portion of his body, some body parts,  or his or her own existence. There are three stages Cotard's syndrome :

(i) Germination stage— Psychotic Depression and hypochondriasis like symptoms are developed in this stage.

(ii) Blooming stage—the absolute development of  negation delusions and the syndrome.

(iii) Chronic stage—Chronic Psychiatric Depression with persistent severe  delusions. The affected individual withdraws from others due to the neglect of their physical health and personal hygiene.

 The negation delusion  of self may not  allow the person to  make the sense of external reality, that can result in a distorted view of the external world.Psychotic patient who also presents with Schizophrenia usually developed the delusion of negation.
Treatment: Psychologists and mental health professionals should  use antipsychotic drugs, Mood Stabilizers and Antidepressants  for its treatment. Electroconvulsive therapy ECT also gives desired results. Psychotherapies should be administered in mild conditions.
